It's Been a While

It's been over a month since my last blog. I'm going to try to do better. I have a friend who also has a blog I love reading it (she keeps it updated), so it has encouraged me to keep mine more current.

Josh and I have a spring cleaning list full of projects for the house and the yard and I'm SUPER excited. This is a big deal around our house because Josh is not a go-getter when it comes to cleaning...anything. I will say though, that he is improving and I'm thrilled to be working along side of him.

Chap and Lucy are loving the warm weather and beginning to get along better. Lucy still rules the roost around here, but she is beginning to accept Chap a little more. We are working on Chap's chewing habit though. He is a puppy and it's hard to catch him in the act, but he always leaves the remnants of his latest chewing. We need to put a little camera on his collar with an alarm to let us know when he begins to chew...maybe then we can catch him :)

At the college group last night that I help lead, we talked about giving our life away to others. As I went through out my day, I began to examine the way I treated every person I came in contact with and looked deep to see if I was really giving my life away. When Jesus talked about giving His life away, He talked about His total being, not just part of Him or whenever He felt like it, or if He liked the person. No, He gave His entire life away, all the way to death on a cross. WOW...such an eye-opener. In our daily lives, we settle for a spunky "How are you doing?" and an overly cheesy smile to "be Jesus" to the people we come in contact with. That is not what we were called to do though; we were called to give our ENTIRE life! Take some time to chew on that one...

Face wash, dish soap and side items

Over lunch, I told Josh that I needed to run by the store after work to get a few things and that he should be there promptly at 5:00 to pick me up so we can get our things at the store and be ready for our dinner guest to arrive at 6:30. Josh, being the gentleman that he is, said that he would take my list and get the things for me that afternoon because he was going to be out anyway. What a relief because I don't particularly like going to the store, especially at 5:00.

Josh picks me up from work and I scan the bag for what he purchased and it was nothing that I thought he was going to get. I put on my list: face wash, dish soap, side items for dinner. When I look in the sack, the face wash is not my normal, not even the same brand, but I told myself that it would be okay. I then see Cascade soap. When I think of dish soap, I think Dawn, Palmolive, etc. I should have been more specific. I then come across 2 boxes of Velveeta shells & cheese and a loaf of Texas toast (those were his choice of side items). I wanted to bust out in tears.

I was upset because he did not get me exactly what I had on my list, or what I thought he should get. Yes, he knew what I needed, but not to my expectations. How many times in our life do we give our "list" to God and say, "Here ya go. Do this for me please." and we expect Him to come back with what we want, when may not be what we need. Sometimes we ask God for this job, this car, this mate, this _________ (you fill in the blank) when he knows more of what we need than what we really do. We feel that God did not "meet our expectations", but really, He has our best in mind, He has THE plan for our life! What a blessing to live in this promise!

When I got home I put the Cascade away and realized I was getting low anyway, so I was grateful that I didn't have to pay the $7 t and he did. When I began to prepare the remaining part of dinner, our guest arrived and he saw the shells & cheese box. I haven't seen somebody that happy about shells & cheese (he is a college student :) I knew then that Josh made the right choice, regardless of the fact that I wanted broccoli and whole wheat rolls. It wasn't about me, it was about my guest. And the face wash, it works wonderfully and I will be buying it again. All in all, I am grateful and thankful for Josh and doing what he thought he should do. It was a perfect illustration and definitely opened my eyes to options!

Start Of Something... FUN!

This is Day 1 of our blog and I'm very excited! I'm sure I will be doing most of the entries, but I'll try to get Josh to enter a few days and give his stance on some things that I write about.

Today was a typical Monday here at our house. Josh and I both have Monday's off so we spent our day catching up on things that we missed over the weekend and I did laundry and swept the floors. I feel like I'm always sweeping floors between Josh leaving the screen doors open and the dogs running in and out. I'm a lean, mean sweeping machine! haha

Josh began designing a new set of graphics for the Easter service at the church and it is already looking amazing! He is such a gifted and talented man. I'm hoping our children will get his artistic abilities and not my stick figure style.

Chap, the newest addition to our family, the border collie got another bath this evening in between watching the "Bachelor" and "Harry's Law". With all the nice weather we are having, Chap has been spending most of his days outside, adjusting to country life and trying to play with Lucy (our Australian Shepherd). I say "trying to play" because Lucy is constantly growling and grunting at him. He is like the little pesky brother that will never leave his older sister alone. I can say I can relate to Lucy sometimes. I'm sure they will get along in the future, but I foresee it taking some time.

When Josh and I talk about the words that we would use to describe the past 8 months of our marriage we are always using the word fun. Fun when we work around the house, fun when we road trip to see my family, fun when we play, everything is just FUN! We are at the start of something...FUN!
